HCT Group is a social enterprise organisation operating in the transportation sector and provides over 12 million transport trips per annum on their buses. The company is a registered charity and provides services such as London red buses, school transport, social services transport and park and ride.

The profits generated from the services are re-invested in further transport services or projects within the community served by the Group, which includes training for unemployed people looking to work in the transport sector.

The company started in 1982 to cover services in Hackney and by 1993 had started to compete for commercial contracts in the market place. This approach has seen HCT Group grow from a handful of volunteers and a couple of minibuses, with a turnover of £202k in 1993 – to a large scale social enterprise with over 700 employees, twelve depots spread across London, Yorkshire, Humberside, the Southwest and the Channel Islands, a fleet of over 370 vehicles and a 2011/12 turnover of £28.6m.

In 2005 HCT decided to implement the Sage 200 system (then known as Sage MMS) to manage their finances and provide the company with the controls and reporting needed to aid their growth. In 2011 they upgraded to the latest version of Sage 200 and in March 2012 decided to move their support to a new Sage business partner and chose Pentyme Solutions Ltd to be that partner.

During 2012 they implemented a financial reporting package called A LA Carte from Excel in Business which provides a vast array of standard reports which are presented as Excel spreadsheets with data extracted from Sage 200.

Pentyme provides the support services for HCT’s Sage 200 system, which includes regular account management meetings held between Pentyme and HCT’s Douglas Downie (Chief Finance Officer) and Stephen Mason (Group Finance Director).
