    John Martin

    A multi-disciplined accountant and project manager, John Martin has run a number of services companies in addition to owning a successful payroll bureau for over 20 years. His knowledge and expertise in the implementation of financial controls and systems has led to him being utilised by a number of multi-million pound businesses as a financial controller, often responsible for the restructure of the financial and management information systems and the business turnaround.

    John began his career as a trainee accountant in Plymouth before migrating into the retail sector as an internal auditor with House of Fraser. He then joined the Milk Marketing Board (including Dairy Crest Ltd) as a travelling auditor where he first met fellow Pentyme Director David Johnson.

    Since leaving Dairy Crest in 1987, his experience within the food industry has led him to be employed by large companies such as Ginsters and Hygrade Foods to provide assistance in differing finance roles. More recently, John spent 7 months at Oxford University as a Project Manager responsible for implementing and upgrading new accounting software into 12 subsidiary companies.

    He established the Pentyme brand in 2002 with the goal of using expertise to provide a range of core business support services to under-resourced clients. Pentyme Resources works alongside John’s wholly-owned payroll bureau, which was established in the early 1990s.

    John is a family man who enjoys watching and coaching rugby in his spare time. He is a qualified Prince2 project management practitioner and has undertaken the Dale Carnegie personal development course.

    David Johnson

    David Johnson FCMA CGMA MiP is an experienced director, qualified accountant and business manager who has developed his career through a sound Accounting, Company Secretarial and Commercial background. David joined Pentyme as a Director in 2006 and his skills as a business strategist, financial manager and adept negotiator make him a fundamental part of the team.

    David began his career as a Chartered Management Accountant with GKN. His career developed within the building and the food industries at corporate levels. In 1978 he joined the milk industry where he was involved in establishing Dairy Crest within the Milk Marketing Board before going on to become the Chief Executive of The Farmhouse Cheesemaker Co-operative and later Director of Finance in an international biotechnology business among others. In 2000 he started his successful consultancy and business accounting practice where he has contributed to transforming businesses and facilitated many changes with different organisations including those in construction, manufacture, education, care and service sectors.

    David is a family man with two daughters; as well as his business interests he is a Council member of CIMA and is on the UK Board and Professional Standards Committee and is very active and immediate past chair of CIMA’s South West England and South Wales area, a founding member of the CIMA Consulting Members in Practice and is passionate about developing his knowledge to help deliver practical effective advice and solutions to businesses and owner managers. He sings in a male voice choir, plays a little golf and enjoys walking and other recreational pursuits.plays a little golf and enjoys walking and other recreational pursuits.

    Stephen Greet

    A highly accomplished software developer with over 25 years experience in the industry, Stephen Greet began his career at Texas Instruments where he worked as a repair specialist as well as an in-house software developer. In 1995 he gained a 1st class B.Sc. (Hons) Computing and Informatics degree from the University of Plymouth.

    After working in the data communications sector Stephen started his own business in 1999, Sitrus Computing, which provides system evaluation and installation consultancy for a number of small businesses and hosts a commercial terminal server deployment. The business provides application services to a number of clients in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Stephen’s expertise in communications software development has led to him working with industry leaders such as Microsoft and Symantec to provide solutions for their customer base.

    Stephen is a keen cyclist and has enjoyed family cycling holidays in France and Ireland. He also enjoys Indian and Chinese cooking, motor-racing (spectator only!), car maintenance and restoration and, in quieter moments, playing the guitar.

    Julie is an experienced payroll manager with over 10 years of providing payroll solutions to businesses across the South West. Julie is an integral part of JC Martin Associates, the payroll service provider which was one of the first payroll providers in the South West to become a BACS approved bureau.

    Irene Greener

    Irene is a seasoned commercially astute HR consultant with extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge gained over many years operating in both generalist and specialised roles in employee relations, training and development. Following a varied career predominately in large multi site organisations, both in the public and private sectors of industry in Head Office and field roles, Irene decided to set up her own business as an independent HR practitioner. Irene has been successfully working as an HR consultant for the past 9 years and practices in a variety of different ways e.g she has worked in an interim capacity within client premises, or on a retained or ad hoc basis, to suit the needs to her clients.

    Irene has highly developed skills in influencing, problem solving, planning and analysis.     Andrew Horton

    Andrew career path has been varied – not to say unconventional! But this has certainly equipped him for confronting and addressing the variety of problems that can affect a business and hinder its ability to prosper. Troubleshooting and problem-solving now come as second nature.

    Raised against the background of the agricultural and holiday industries, Andrew joined the Merchant Navy straight from college as an Electronics and Communications Officer.

    Looking for a new challenge he was captivated by the new Apple personal computers and moved into the fledgling IT industry. For the next 20 years he ran one of the Westcountry’s most successful Sage accounts software dealerships. The valuable experience of creating IT solutions to improve business processes in a diverse range of industries, led Andrew into business consultancy.

    Andrew  oversaw the profitable sale of my IT company and has since enjoyed successful periods working with a number of businesses across sectors as diverse as IT, Defence, Fast Food, Graphic Design, Online Retailing, Tourism, Manufacturing and Production, Promotional Goods, Print, Packaging and Mail Order.

    Andrew’s experience in sales and marketing management is proven and he can boast success in building sales through direct mail, advertising and online campaigns, direct to the end user and via reseller channels. Andrew has been engaged to purchase businesses, turnaround ailing concerns, assist with SME start-ups. He has also managed the sourcing, planning, repair and commissioning of buildings for factory production, warehousing, fast food and office accommodation.

    Over the years Andrew  has established a reputation for team building and am a recognised communicator of ideas and solutions. He can work with people at all levels in any organisation to facilitate change, improvement and profit.
    His recent successes include taking a print company from £600k pa turnover to £6.5 million by buying up and turning around failed printing companies across the South of England.
